About Is it possible to work in a research lab as a high school student

Is it possible to work in a research lab as a high school student?
I currently am shadowing a graduate student at a research lab, but I am annoyed that my schedule relies completely on his. I would prefer to work at a lab and get paid for it. However, it being almost july, I'm not sure if it's too late to find a position, and whether a position is even possible. I live around the University of Rochester. Thank you!

Great location. You didn't mention what type of research. I suggest that you go to your local work force office ( state employment office) and to the employment office of the local university to see if there are any openings. Do not be surprised if you will only be able to menial jobs as your age and experience will limit what you would be allowed to do. Please understand that most research labs have very stringent protocols to protect their results and funding. They cannot afford to let an untried, although enthusiastic, minor do much direct research. Also, they might accept some volunteer help, but paid positions are few and far between. On the other hand, look around town for an apprenticeship or volunteer program. Check out the veterinary clinics, humane society, hospital etc. Again, do not expect to be able to do any unsupervised work. There could be big liability issues. If you are interested in research, can you do some on your own? A few inventions and breakthroughs have started out in someone's garage or basement. What are you interested in researching? Maybe you can do some of your own experiemnts and learn from experience.

About What IMPORTANT people are buried at Rochester Cathedral

What IMPORTANT people are buried at Rochester Cathedral?
Well, that is one of my questions. What important people are buried at Rochester Cathedral? Secondly, I would like to know if anyone knows why it was built in the first place? Thank you. PS. This work is for a school project and these are the only things that I can't find anywhere, so if anyone has any links, that would be apprieciated too. :) I'm sorry about being rude to the people. That is just what the question on my sheet says.

Is it practical to buy a house 5 hours away from work??

The local market should be a major consideration at this time since so much of the northeast real estate market is in a major correction right now. I would hesitate buying something at "full price" in a market that has more than eight months of supply listed for sale. If you can find a decent bargain, your plan to stay with Mom in the city while having your permanent home upstate may not be a bad idea. Remember that if you're not there, though, there might not be anybody else to a) keep an eye on things, b) be available in a real emergency (you're five hours away!), and c) do the maintenance that will end up eating all your "free time" when you are actually back home. Some people end up hating the commute after just three months when it is only two or three hours - - and you're talking five. I would consider only doing it with a roommate or co-owner to lighten the load.
2 :
if you don't intend to live in the house on work days.
3 :
Not really practical BUT on a 3 on and 4 off, it might be doable.. IF: You can handle living with mom for 3 days a week and Don't mind leaving your house for that long. (GET AN ALARM that is monitored as you will be a high risk target for break in.) Don't have plants or pets The cost of the house an all required insurance etc plus the gas to commute is less than the rent and the house has a reasonable potential to gain equity or you are getting really good deal on it so you can afford to hold it for a year plus and then roll it for more money to get a house closer. This will be a locked commitment for at least 6 months but more likely a year.. If the housing market does not rebound you could be locked in longer than that... If there is any chance you could change hours, aka your boss or function changes don't do it.. If there is a chance that you can go more virtual, then it is a better risk.
4 :
Well gas is three dollars a gallon and youre talking about driving an extra 700 miles a week. if your gets 30 miles a gallon, that over $115 dollars a week. Is the job paying that much more money? If you can afford that, you should be able to afford the more expensive housing close by.

About Places to work at 14 years old in Rochester, NY.

Places to work at 14 years old in Rochester, NY.?
Hello! I'm 14 years old (a freshman in high school), and my parents are considering letting me go to Paris & England with my class, but the thing is, it's about 4000 dollars, but I have 2 years to earn the money! Do you know any places that will hire me? I'm inexpirenced, since I turned 14 in June. I'm willing to do ANYTHING! I need to do this. So please, anyone? Give me the names of some places, and please don't say something like: no where. That doesn't help. Thanks! Oops, I didn't mean that I need to earn ALL of that. My parents will probably help me pay for it. I just need some spending money, etc.

Publix, as far as I know. But 4000 dollars in 2 years for a 14 year old is an unlikely figure. Maybe you could find some local busnisses (can't spell :\) to sponsor your trip. That is, if it's a trip for "higher education" purposes. Find some nice people, string togethor an eloquent offer, and there you go.

The first thing you should do is talk to your school's guidance counselors office about a work permit and while you're at it, see if they may have job leads. I worked through my high school years in jobs that the school arranged for me in retail sales while other students were employed in office settings, inventory and stock work, and other positions. Now, you may also want to consider your own business like many teens have done over the years. Let's say you want to teach computer classes or write a newsletter or make craft items... you can make far more money working for yourself than you can working for someone else. Your local library will have a number of books on how to set up your own business and are aimed specifically at teens. Talk to your librarian about books like "Fast Cash for Kids" by Bonnie and Noel Drew. My library has more than 12 books aimed at entrepreneual teens. Another great resource is a group called Junior Achievements. Check out their website below. There are things you can do to earn money legally but you have to find the jobs... they won't find you.

About Rochester, NY

Rochester, NY?
I'm thinking about taking a field assignment for work in Rochester which could be a permenant position. I'm 25 year old who has never left a small city in Florida. I need culture dammit! Is there things to do there for someone my age and how much travel time would it take to get to New York City?

Rochester is a sleepy small town on the shores of Lake Ontario. Just about the only thing it's known for is it's the headquarters of camera and film maker company Kodak. Rochester is 300 miles from New York City by car-- at least a 6-hour drive. (New York State is a BIG place). If you are looking to be near New York City, Rochester isn't it. The closest big city near Rochester is Buffalo, NY, which is about 60 miles to the west.
2 :
Rochester is a small, old city. Very long, cold winters. I don't know if Rochester is really the best place for culture. If you like outdoor activites...hiking, biking, skiing, camping, parks, etc....upstate NY is good for that. NYC is several hrs away. You would actually be closer to Toronto and Buffalo.

Summers in Rochester are wonderful.... lots to do... Festivals every week. The Jazz Festival just ended - so you missed out on that...but every Thursday there is the "Party in the Park" - free concerts downtown... A few Fridays they have the East End Festival - block party with local bands. Make sure you try biking on the Erie Canal Path. Finger Lake Wine Trail is appro 45 min. away. Niagara Falls is about an hour away - the falls is great - the town is cheesy unless you like strip clubs. Letchworth Park is very nice - wonderful trip during the fall to see the leaves change. If you like Art - go to one of the open house events at the Artisian Works - they fund and house artist who provide artwork for the Artisan works - you'll never see all the art in one day - and you may get lost...that's how much stuff they have and it's all for sale. Now winters can be a little rough for you Fl gals.... I don't mind them but I've lived in the NE my whole life. If you want to take up cross country skiing there are some great parks that have groomed trails. Feel free to contact me for other ideas on what to do in Rochester
